A Birth Doula is birth worker who supports you during prenatal, labor, birth, and early post-partum.

Doulas help advocate for you and make sure you are being listened to. A Doula not only supports you but your birth partner as well. They can provide YOU with comfort measures, information, emotional support, and sometimes a mother just needs a friend to hold space in the birth room. Doulas aren't only great for moms but for dads too! Doulas can help assure dads when birth begins to become intense. She can also help him with staying focused on the mother. Doulas create a comforting and warm environment for the newly forming family unit. Here are a few lovely things doulas can do-

  • Soothing with touch through the use of massage, counter pressure, or a rebozo

  • Helping to create a calm environment, like dimming lights and arranging curtains

  • Assisting with water therapy (shower, tub)

  • Applying warmth or cold

  • Giving ice chips, food, and drinks

  • Continuous presence

  • Reassurance

  • Encouragement

  • Praise

  • Helping the birthingmama see themselves or their situation more positively

  • Keeping company

  • Showing a caring attitude

  • Mirroring—calmly describing what the birthing mama is experiencing and echoing back the same feelings and intensity

  • Accepting what the birthing mama wants

  • Helping the birthing mama and partner work through fears and self-doubt

  • Debriefing after the birth—listening to the mother with empathy

Of Course, Doulas can help support you based on your own personal needs.

Doulas have fantastic benefits for families! Here are some of those amazing benefits-

  • 25% decrease in the risk of Cesarean.

  • 8% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth.

  • 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief.

*Doulas aren't medical professionals. Doulas do not provide medical advice. Doulas do not deliver babies. Doulas do not take the other birth partners place.
